Farmers Markets

We love our farmers and they treat us all season with a cornucopia of fresh, delicious foods. People are rediscovering the pleasure of fresh, healthy food from local farms and a more meaningful connection with the land and the community. Buying directly from farmers is a way to enjoy this experience and Ontario County has many opportunities to do it.

Farmers’ markets are a tradition as old as agriculture itself and Ontario County has several, including three community-based farmers’ markets. You can also buy directly from farmers throughout the county at farm stands, pick-your-own farms, wineries and nurseries. A good directory of these farm operations in Ontario County is available in the New York Farm Fresh Guide that can be accessed through the Department of Agriculture & Markets.

Ontario County Farmers Markets

The three community-based farmers’ markets in Ontario County are in Canandaigua, Geneva and Victor. They offer a wide range of the freshest seasonal produce from local growers and a variety of nursery and plant items, fresh baked goods, flowers, eggs, and locally-produced gourmet items such as jams and jellies, cheese, honey and herbed vinegars. Shoppers at the markets can often enjoy special entertainment events for the entire family and a variety of prepared foods.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

The CSA is a relationship of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and cummunity members who pay the farmer an annual membership fee to cover the production costs of the farm. In turn, members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the local growing season.

There are currently two CSAs operating in Ontario County. Pick up sites for the two active CSAs are in Geneva and Canandaigua.
